"Very Funny"
Would you listen to John Finnemore's Souvenir Programme: The Complete Series 2 again? Why?
I would listen to this program again as i find most of the sketches to be very funny and well written.

"it review"
it was great I loved it BEST STORY EVER !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOVES IT JUST LOVES IT!

"Short sketches of humor"
Witty writing, not necessarily laugh-out-loud humor. But, I've just come off a spate of re-listening to Cabin Pressure and after wondering why I didn't enjoy this work as much as I deeply enjoy the Cabin Pressure series is that these sketches didn't have characters to invest my attention. The bickering and underlying friendship of the Cabin Pressure characters gave the story line continuity. Plus Cabin Pressure came up with interesting plots to follow. This, instead, was just a series of sketches, yes some were intertwined, so, the experience was more like reading a book of jokes instead of a story.
With Cabin Pressure, I laughed out loud very often. With this, I noted that "Yes, that was interesting and witty."

"Clever comedy"
Repeated listening a pleasure. I never delete this program from my device, so I always have a good laugh to hand (and to ear).

"Sketch comedy to make you guffaw."
John Finnemore's Souvenir Programme is majestic sketch comedy. Witty and amusing, intelligent and extremely funny, you can't help but laugh at the brilliant word play, effortlessly enhanced by pop culture and literary references, which just make these sketches sparkle. Comic gold. You will not regret listening to this for a second.

"Insomnia song."
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes, and I have. I basically give it a blanket recommendation to everyone I know.

Who was your favorite character and why?
Roger Watiss, founding member of the silent majority.

(Or the man with insomnia)

(Or the chess royalty)

(It is hard to choose, really)

What about John Finnemore’s performance did you like?
He is a genius. His voices--"normal, silly French, and TWO kinds of posh!"--are always engaging and well paced. The whole cast is really really good, they work together extremely well. Every scene showcases the well-tuned, well-played voice acting done by every member of the cast.

Any additional comments?
If you like quick witted comedy, with a special focus on the ridiculous nature of rhetorical flourishes, then this is the show for you. The ghost-stories-that-aren't-ghost-stories at the end of each episode may be some of the most well-crafted parodies I have ever encountered. It walks the line between the ridiculous and the absurdly clever, without losing balance or falling too far off track. The sketches are consistent AND consistently funny.

Before They Were Famous (Podcast) Episode 1 of 4

Listen in Before They Were Famous, Series 1 Episode 1/4 Ian Leslie with often surprising first literary attempts of the world's best-known writers
Series 1 Comedy. Ian Leslie uncovers the first literary attempts of the world's best-known writers
Ian Leslie presents a new Radio 4 comedy show which brings to light the often surprising first literary attempts of some of the world's best known writers. A project of literary archaeology, Leslie has found evidence in the most unlikely of places - within the archives of newspapers, periodicals, corporations and universities - showcasing the early examples of work by writers such as Jilly Cooper during her brief and unfortunately unsuccessful foray into the world of war reporting, and Hunter S Thompson in his sadly short-lived phase working in the customer relations department for a major American Airline.

These are the newspaper articles, advertising copy, company correspondence and gardening manuals that allow us a fascinating glimpse into the embryonic development of our best loved literary voices - people we know today for their novels or poems but who, at the time, were just people with a dream...and a rent bill looming at the end of the month.

"Well-defined characters, strong casting and great writing do a good sitcom make. Sounds easy, but few get it right. I am, therefore, delighted to announce that this new series is so funny that I listened to it three times in a row, laughing more loudly each time at the lines I now knew were coming.

It's set in a small airline company staffed by two pilots and run by a forbidding 60-something woman who, one of her staff suggests, sharpens rather than brushes her teeth in the morning. Roger Allam's character is on a par with Basil Fawlty as the embittered pilot on his way down.

Jane Anderson, Radio Times, 2nd July 2008"

"John Finnemore's new situation comedy has the benefit of a superb cast. Roger Allam, Stephanie Cole and Benedict Cumberbatch give their all to this story of a small charter airline whose single plane is flown by one blasé old know-it-all (Allam) and one fiercely competitive young thruster (Cumberbatch). The whole shebang is owned by a fearsome divorcée (Cole) who has come by the plane in a divorce settlement. Her other inheritance is a dim son (played by the author) whose meek optimism is amply reflected in the laughter from the studio audience.
Gillian Reynolds, The Telegraph, 2nd July 2008"

"The fear and joys of flying have been a comedy staple for decades, and every joke it is possible to make has probably been made. The challenge is to tell the old jokes in a new way. So step forward, experienced wordsmith (Dead Ringers, That Mitchell and Webb Sound) John Finnemore, with this new six-part sitcom about a one-plane outfit run by an autocratic divorcée (Stephanie Cole, doing her usual posh bully bit).

Her aircraft has two pilots, one a jaded cynic with a dodgy past who can, though, actually fly (played to worldweary perfection by Roger Allam) and one who seemed to have got his wings through a correspondence college (Benedict Cumberbatch, showing he can do situation comedy as well as he does everything else in the thesp game).

Chuck in Finnemore himself as Cole's keen but dim son-of-all work, plus an unusually high level of well-researched technical information about flying, and you have a half-hour that flies by (fnaarg fnaarg).

Chris Campling, The Times, 2nd July 2008"

Physicist Brian Cox and comedian Robin Ince are joined by special guests Alexei Sayle and philosopher Julian Baggini to discuss Stephen Hawking's recent comment that "philosophy is dead". Does the progress of science mean the need for disciplines such as philosophy and even religion are negated as we understand more and more about how the world works. Or are there some things, such as human consciousness, that science will never be able to fully explain.

Physicist Brian Cox and comedian Robin Ince return for the third series of the witty, irreverent science show.
In the first episode of the series, Brian and Robin are joined by comedian Andy Hamilton to discuss some of the wackier apocalyptic theories, as well as those more grounded in science fact. Did the Mayans know something that we didn't with their prediction of global annihilation in 2012, or should we be focusing our energies and scientific know-how on some of the more likely scenarios, from near earth asteroids, through to climate change and deadly pandemics, or even the more long term possibilities of our sun burning out....although we have got roughly another 5 billion years to ponder the challenge of that problem.

The Infinite Monkey Cage, Series 15: Episode 6 of 6 - Making the Invisible, Visible

Listen in The Infinite Monkey Cage, Series 15: 6/6 Brian Cox and Robin Ince discover how science can make the invisible visible.

Brian Cox and Robin Ince are joined by comedian Katy Brand, Cosmologist Prof Carlos Frenk, and biologist Prof Matthew Cobb to discover how to make the seemingly invisible, visible. They look at how the history and development of the telescope and the microscope have allowed us to look at the impossibly big to the seemingly impossibly small, to gain insight into the history of our universe and the inner workings of the human body. They look at how radio and space telescopes have allowed us to look back in time and "see" the big bang, and understand the age and content of the early universe, and how space telescopes have thrown light on the mysterious substance known as dark matter. They also look at the way microscopes and new biological techniques have allowed us to understand the seemingly invisible processes going on inside our cells. They also ask what, if anything, will always remain invisible to us - are there some processes or concepts that are impossible for us to "see".

Brian Cox and Robin Ince celebrate the 100th anniversary of Einstein's great theory
Brian Cox and Robin Ince explore the legacy of Einstein's great theory, and how a mathematical equation written 100 years ago seems to have predicted so accurately exactly how our universe works. From black holes to the expanding universe, every observation of the universe, so far, has been held up by the maths in Einstein's extraordinary work. So how was he able to predict the events and behaviour of our universe, long before the technology existed to prove he was right, and will there ever be another theory that will supersede it? Brian and Robin head up the iconic Lovell telescope at Jodrell Bank to explore Einstein's theory in action, and talk to scientists who are still probing the mysteries hidden within General Relativity.

They are joined on stage by comedian and former maths student Paul Foot, mathematician Hannah Fry and statistician Professor Sir David Speigelhalter, as they discover whether a knowledge of numbers can help you in the affairs of the heart? Can a maths algorithm help you find your perfect mate at a party and what do the statistics tell us about what happens after the party, if you do! They find out whether mathematicians are more successful at dating than comedians, and whether a rational, scientific approach to love and life long happiness is really the answer.

Brian Cox and Robin Ince are joined by US superstar neuroscientist David Eagleman, Professor Sophie Scott and comedian Bridget Christie to ask what is reality? Is our sense of the world around us a completely personal experience and a construct of our brains? How can we ever know whether what one person perceives is exactly the same as what another person perceives. Is your sense of the world around you an illusion constructed by this extraordinary organ, the brain, that has no direct access to the outside world that it is helping you to understand.

Moving on from the pedantry of physics, they'll be asking whether the divide between men and women is based on a fundamental difference in our genetics, in our brain function, or is it all down to our upbringing. Let the battle commence.

They'll also be investigating the purpose of dreams and whether analysing them has any useful purpose? The Infinite Monkey Cage, S.14 EP.2/6 - The Recipe to Build A Universe

Listen in " The Infinite Monkey Cage, Series 14 Episode 2 of 6 - The Recipe to Build A Universe "
Brian Cox and Robin Ince ask what ingredients you need to build a universe? They are joined on stage by comedian and former Science Museum explainer, Rufus Hound, chemist Andrea Sella and solar scientist Lucie Green, as they discuss the basis of all school chemistry lessons, the periodic table. They discover how the elements we learnt about at school are the building blocks that make up everything from humans to planet earth to the universe itself. They were formed in stars and during the big bang. The history of the discovery of the periodic table and the elements is a wonderful tale of genuine scientific exploration that has changed our understanding of where we come from and how life and the universe that we know came to be. The panel also ponder which element they might choose if they were building a universe from scratch and the audience suggest which elements they would remove from the periodic table if given the chance?

The Infinite Monkey Cage, S.14 EP.1/6 - The Sound of Music

Listen to "The Infinite Monkey Cage, Series 14 Episode 1 of 6 - The Sound of Music"
Brian Cox and Robin Ince take to the stage at Glastonbury Music Festival. They are joined by comedian Matt Kirshen, musicians KT Tunstall and Nitin Sawhney and scientists Lucy Cooke and Trevor Cox. No Julie Andrews for this special edition of the long running science/comedy show, although music does take centre stage as the panel discuss the evolution and science of why and how humans are programmed to love everything from the Rolling Stones to Rap to Rachmaninoff. They'll also be looking at whether there are any examples of music in the animal kingdom and whether gorillas really hum.

The Infinite Monkey Cage, Series 15 Episode 5 of 6

The Human Story: how we got here and why we survived.
Brian Cox and Robin Ince are joined by comedian Ross Noble, Professor Danielle Shreve and Professor Chris Stringer as they look at the tricky job of piecing together the history of modern humans and how we came to be here. They look back to the earliest known human ancestors and the fossils and tools that have allowed us to paint the picture of our journey out of Africa, to become the last surviving human species on the planet. They ask why we have gone from more than 5 or 6 species of humans some 200,000 years ago, to just 1 today. They also look at how discoveries made in just the last 5 years have completely transformed our understanding of human history and what new DNA technology has revealed about our ancient past. They also reveal what surprising tropical animal remains have been found buried deep under Trafalgar Square.

The Infinite Monkey Cage, Series 15 Episode 4 of 6 Oceans: What Remains to Be Discovered?

Oceans: what remains to be discovered?
Brian Cox and Robin Ince are joined by Andy Hamilton, Professor Jon Copley and marine biologist Helen Scales, as they look at the riches still remaining to be discovered deep within our oceans. The deep ocean remains the last great unexplored frontier of our planet, and as Brian and Robin discover, what we might find there could provide us with some extraordinary insights and applications. We've only just begun to touch the surface, literally, in terms of identifying and learning about the huge and varied life forms that live in our oceans -from the microbes that could inspire and generate new drugs to fight antibiotic resistant diseases, to the deep sea snails with iron clad shells, that may lead to the development of new super-strong materials. Even the humble limpet is providing inspiration to material scientists and engineers: the limpets' teeth, it turns out, are made from the strongest natural substance on the planet.
